2 years this month!
Posted by jimswife on July 7, 2012 at 3:28 amIt’s been a long time since I’ve posted and I wanted to let folks know that as of Jim’s June 20th CT he is still cancer free until proven otherwise! Those of you who had taken me under their wings when I arrived here know how bad it was for Jim. He went into his RC/IC as a stage III bc patient and came out with a stage IV. To say I was scared witless is a gross understatement. i wanted to let people who may come to the forum know that even with stage IV bc it doesn’t always mean you have just moments to live. Not by a long shot. Mind you the journey isn’t always easy with chemo etc but it is doable with the goal being to live.
Jim and I have always followed Mike’s very good suggestion to have cance free times, and cancer free zones. Those suggestions, Mike, were some of the best. That way our entire lives weren’t consumed day in and day out with bc being our only discussions. It helped us keep our sanity when we truly thought we might lose it! I will always be grateful and thankful for some of the very caring people on this forum.
My plan is to come back more often and try to offer support to some of the new comers who are as scared as I was in July 2010.
Take care all and live life to it’s fullest!

This site has been a blessing to me and I don’t keep up with it as I should. When I was first diagnosed everyone was so supportive and informative it made it easier to deal with. I still try to read the forum at least once a week and to keep up with everyone. and I still remain cancer free since 2008. Thank you all for being there at such a difficult time. Bobbi

I’m 70, retired heat/air contractor. After 4 months of keymo ileal conduit (IC) surgery removed bladder & prostate May 2010Thanks so much, everyone. Sara Ann I will try to come back more often. I enjoyed meeting you via phone the day I was traveling to Tallahassee. I am pleased to tell you that not only did we get the State of Florida to declare July as BC Awareness Month but we also got about 7 counties and several cities to do proclamations. Each time we have accepted we’ve shared with the presenters *and most of Florida’s govt meetings are televised so it hit a larger audience* about BC and how it strikes peoples lives. We will be having a Celebration party the end of this month for all our friends who have “been there” for Jim and me on our journey.
We both know the “beast” may come back but the oncologist is VERY pleased with jim’s progress.
Mike I will give Jim your greetings. And, yes, I have shared with you how your suggestions and simmering me down some helped me more than words can ever say. The people here are so caring and supportive. This is what people who get this diagnosis need most. Wish I could join you all in Boston (a town i love a lot we went on our honeymoon in Boston) But look forward to your reports.
Take care all, Carla who will be back more often

“Please don’t cry because it is over….. Smile because it happened!” {Dr. Seuss} :)Oh Carla, that is GREAT news. And Please do come back to encourage others. IMHO that is one of the most important things we can do. For someone newly diagnosed, it is the “aloneness” of it all.

Forum ModeratorCarla and Jim… That is such wonderful news to hear. You two have been a formidable team against this BC beast. Your message of not giving up in the face of less than favorable news is a lesson for everyone here.
Best wishes,
Catherine
