My once-per-week for 6 wks BCG treatment is in one week, 13 days after my TUR. My urologist does in his office. After BCG is put in my bladder & catheter is removed, I leave the office & then wait 2hrs before expelling. I have an active bladder. Aside from the usual requirements of discontinuing fluids 6hrs before treatment, deferring taking of diuretics until after the treatment, etc., does anyone have any other advice to ensure I retain the BCG for 2hrs? Thank you.

    Arthur,

Most do very well, even with the side effects and I am sure you will too. While it is not a picnic it sure beats chemo that so many cancer patients have to endure. My 11th and 12th instillation I could only it hold for 50-55 minutes and I am still around. I did learn to know where the nearest restroom was by the 6th as I had maybe 20-30 seconds or I was going anyway.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

    Hey Arthur,

Will be receiving my 22nd BCG instillation next week also. Receive the instillation at the clinic, and then my wife drives us home…about a 45 min drive. Have completed the 2-hr hold period without too much difficulty. My approach…only drink water the evening before the treatment and then nothing to eat or drink after midnight. Also, lay flat on the floor (I use a yoga mat)…15 mins on back, 15 mins on each side, and 15 mins on stomach (watch Netflix on my iPad). You’ll be fine.

    Best wishes!

First of all, it is not a failure if you do not make it to the 2 hour mark. That would be ideal, but just so the best that you can. Most times I made it to at least 1 hr, 55 minutes, but not always [instagram][instagram]?[/instagram][/instagram].

    You will do fine!
