After Surgery 3

12 years 4 months ago #960 by Whitlo
Hello All,
I went to see my Uro yesterday and laid out all my complaints, he listened patiently and then we did a sonorgram on my bladder which looked normal then he checked my prostrate. Aha!! It seems that because of the surgery I have an inflamed and swollen prostrate (which BTW was fine when they checked it 4 days before surgery) He put me on Cipro for 2 weeks and flowmax. I slept better than I have in a long while last night, still not right but now definately on the mend. He also says that it is a very common occurance after surgery.

My primary doc thinks so too,
I have an appointment with my uro for this Wednesday. As far as the not sleeping and back pain they think it might be unrelated to the surgery. I was perscribed an anti inflamitory and an MRI on my back next Monday. Good grief, what else.

Whit,
I'm with Wendy. You need to get in touch with your Uro. The best way to approach a busy Doc is to get in good with his nurse (respectfully speaking)...I really think he needs to know about your symptoms. He won't know if you don't tell him. You gotta get some sleep Buddy...

Thanks Wendy,
I agree with that assesment. I am seeing my primary care Doc today. He did put me on Ciprofloxacin on Fri. to get rid of the infection but I think there is more going on. My lower back aches when I lie down, I used to sleep on my side but when I try to now I start to ache around my testicles and feel like I have to pee. I want to talk to my Uro but he is really busy with two offices and very hard to pin down. This is one of the things I want to talk to my primary Doc about , getting my uro involved, I know they talk.

BTW Wendy, thank you for putting this site together, I really appreciate it.

Hi Whit,

I think you should contact your uro who performed the surgery with these complaints and valid concerns. If you need an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection, the uro should know (if he doesn't already). The pain and spasms that follow a TUR are similar to those of an infection and can be treated with various medications that help a LOT. They're not the same as pain meds, a different class of drugs, either antispasmodics or anticholergenics (I think). But if you still need pain meds then you need them! And there are things like stool softeners that make life bearable again, you should be on that already.

As some wise person mentioned in your other thread, there are also drugs that treat urgency, if that's what is still keeping you awake at night. If you're not getting sleep your body can't heal, so that's of paramount importance. Being exhausted makes it all worse, and everything is more painful when you're tired.

I hope you get the help you need ASAP.
