I think one of the major questions to ask if you are going to look for another place is: How often do they do these treatments. The more treatment preformed would tend to mean to me that they have worked out the "kinks" by now. I am sure that there is more than one trained doctor in your area, unless of course if you live in a very rural area. They should not be afraid to have a consultation with you in person or by phone. I would try phone first (you won't be charged) and you won't have to take time off work. Make sure you keep copies of all of you records too. They can send for them but that is so time consuming. Make a folder and keep it with you, add any new paperwork that you get to it immediately. Three hours driving alone getting these treatments sounds almost counter productive. There is enough stress with this disease without adding travel (unless you can stay at a hotel, to the mix.

Connie,

The more I thought about this, the more I think you should follow your instincts.
You are the one who has to live with your decision. It's a hard decision, I know, considering your work issues.

Good luck,

Connie,

It seems there is no definite answer to roll or not to roll. The paperwork given at the clinic said to roll, but the doctors didn't seem to have a strong opinion about it.

Although it is nice for a doctor to have confidence in himself, this attitude gets my back up a little. If this doctor is the only one who knows how to administer BCG's correctly, then a lot of us are in a lot of trouble.

For the record, I rolled around a little....

Your friend,
Rosemary

My local community hospital suggested I 'roll roll roll'. Then the folks at Stanford said it didn't matter. IMHO it probably doesn't make much difference, but why not give it your best shot.

And I would MUCH prefer having BCG administered by someone experienced. I had someone less experienced do it once, one problem was the pain I experienced when the catheter was inserted up the urethra, and then, when the bottle of BCG was squeezed to get the fluid flowing, that transmitted pressure into my bladder, which hurt. After I explained that to the nurse, she was considerate enough to change her technique to avoid that problem.

In the event you do end up with side effects, ask your doctor now if he/she will reduce the concentration of BCG to minimize side effects. And also, ask now about what drugs they prescribe to reduce spasms and pain, should it come to that...

Well yes i do think you have to be concerned about who delivers BCG into your system...however having said that isn't there someone near you who is capable of doing that or are you in a remote area. Are you concerned about losing this doctor if you choose someone else? Pat
