When I told the Urological Surgeon that my local Urologist was a little timid and afraid of puncturing the bladder, he looked like this.... ::)

"So you puncture the bladder?", says he. "It happens. The bladder will heal."

Hmmm....

Beglin...i would seriously consider getting a second opinion from a top uro who specializes in bladder cancer.
And Rosemary my uro said the same thing about puncturing the bladder or whatever and when I mentioned that to Dr. Herr at Memorial ...honest..he just rolled his eyes..guess he's heard that one before! Pat

HMMM.. I wouldn't say my uro had a well equipped facility, and when he took the first attempt at a biopsy, he missed and had to go and do it again.. he did cauterize afterwards.. and biopsy was negative. Not a lot of fun, but tolerable.

I went through TWO biopsies while under anesthesia in order to get enough muscle tissue for a good specimen. After the 2nd biopsy, my doctor still wasn't successful. That is when I decided to go to UNC in Chapel Hill to get the 3rd biopsy. (My local Uro was very fond of me, and he was afraid of hurting me or puncturing my bladder. He admitted this to my family)

I was never offered the option of not being put under anesthesia.

I can't help but be amused. I well remember my uro finding the origianl cancer at the in office cystoscopy and muttering "It's not more than a grade 1 or 2." I had no idea he was talking about cancer. Fortunately, he was diligent, even though we've had a parting of the ways over his management (or the lack thereof) of my stricture. Although, when I had the slides reviewed at Harvard, even though they concurred about the grade 3, they had concerns that there was too much fulguration to reliably say the lamina propria was not invaded. If I knew then what I've learned from this forum 6½ years later, I would have insisted on more thorough evaluation. Well any way, I got lucky I guess.
