Karhart: Agree with the others that you are indeed a good friend. Stay positive..Personally I just finished six-week BCG treatment and breezed thru them, with just some malaise noticed. But otherwise able carry on normally after each of my treatments. This site has done wonders for my mental attitude, so keep checking in from time/time. I am also a newbie, but rest assured we are all here to provide support. Best Regards, Larry

Ms. Rosemary is right. Denny is good to have a friend like you. A support system from those outside of your family can mean the world.

I am thankful that his cancer isn't invasive. I'm sure your friends in the forum can tell you more once you get more specifics on its grade, etc. Good luck with everything.

Karen,

I would say that the results could be worse. Based on what he is telling you, my guess is that Denny's Bladder Cancer is probably T1 G3. This is treatable and the prognosis is much improved with BCG's.

If he is T1 G3, then his cancer is invasive but only through the first layer of epithelium in the bladder. There are two more layers to go through before it invades the bladder wall. If the cancer invades that far, then that is the point where the real trouble begins. The G3 is the highest grade and means that the cancer is agressive and is going to act up. It would be helpful for us to know his actual stage and grade from the path report.

You are a very good and concerned friend. He is very lucky to have you.

Your friend,
Rosemary

My friend, Denny, just called. He went out to the VA and got his lab results. He doesn't remember any of the technical terms except aggressive grade. However, it apparently was superficial. He was told his prognosis was good. He is starting 6 BCG treatments. I told him next time he was at the VA clinic to get a printout of his report. So the not invasive is really good, but aggressive grade is not, right? Does aggressive mean more tumors are likely or that it could become invasive? I warned him that he might have some side effects from the BCG (from what I have read here) and he was really surprised to hear that. He said he would do some research on it. All in all I think he is doing pretty good. How does it sound to everyone else? Thanks.
