mendocino, thank you for your response. Just wondering...how many instillations of mitomycin did you have? And have you had any recurrences?

Thanks

I developed cystitis during 3rd cycle turbt/BCG and at end of treatment was treated with an antibiotic which far as I know resolved problem?? Have heard cystitis is common side effect all these treatments and just something ya have to endure for the greater good. Other hand I read doctors not supposed to give BCG treatments if have a UTO happening??? Glad I have a doctor I trust and just pretty much follow his lead.... seems be working for me.

I received mitomycin with low grade bc. The problem was and is, that I developed a very bad cystitis and after two years my bladder is not clean of the results of the cystitis, I do know that mitomycin is used in many cases at the stage of diagnosis of low grade and with good results in many others.

My 2 cents.... 4 turbt with BCG in 30+ months T1-High Grade and on last 6 week round BCG got real sick so doctor dropped BCG and started me on Gemzar in bladder 6 weeks just like BCG. After I went on 3x month scope with 3 week maintenance Gemzar (Gemcitabine) after scope if no return and 2 each 3 month cycles with no return of tumor yet. Seems the Gemzar may have worked better my case then BCG which gave me 104 temps and real sick. Understand after each turbt they did a mitomycin wash while still in recovery. In my case each turbt was done under general anesthesia. We're all different with different responses to treatment and seems this bladder cancer stuff very resilient and best stay on top it aggressively for the long haul.

I am only aware of mitomycin being used when BCG is not available and sometimes if BCG fails.

Please remember that we are not docs here and you need to discuss this with your doctor and/or get a second opinion.
