Welcome Neelloo2626,

First, you are at a very well respected hospital and your surgeons advice is on the spot. So, you are in good hands. Also, good medicine says do the least invasive treatment and only go more if the need arises. The cystectomy surgery is rigorous. BCG is the gold standard in your fathers situation. I am 11.5 years out cancer free with several on this board at least that. The neuropathy and swelling. That is a question for your med team. I do believe those symptoms are a possible side effect. Nothing says one has to continue forever on this although many protocols call for different time spans. By the fact he has gone through one cycle is very good news.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Hello-

My father was diagnosed back in March of 2019 with T1G3 bladder cancer and after 3 TURBts underwent his first cycle of BCG, cystoscopy was in the clear in October and now going through another round. I am in constant fear for his health. He now has neuropathy and swelling in his leg- is this a BCG side effect? Also I have read articles that to eliminate risk a RC is the way to go. His doctor at Stanford thinks an RC would be overly aggressive based on diagnosis?

Thoughts on BCG efficacy and whether Anyone thinks it’s unreasonable to consider radical cystectomy? In reading message boards it appears that high grade always comes back even after BCG!

Thank you!
