Thanks again,
I note that the article refers to treatment with Sutent AFTER BCG treatment, a very interesting development. I have written to Dr Lamm and I will consult my GIST oncologist to get second opinions.
Cheers for now,
Fred

Very interesting!! I know that there are some articles that state that Sutent might have the potential to cause problems with BCG, but most I have seen think it might be a good idea to combine them. Here is just one of many:

www.mdedge.com/oncologypractice/article/97631/genitourinary-cancer/bcg/sunitinib-combo-produces-high-complete

This is a case where a second opinion is surely warranted....One idea might be to contact Dr. Donald Lamm who has done much of the research on BCG. He does do consults...here is his website

Thank you Sara Anne,
My urologist was going to go with BCG until I told him I was on Sutent for another cancer (GIST), at which point he changed his mind. I'm concerned about the longer term prospects of the bladder cancer recurring with MMC.

Hi Fred!

Mitomycin can be effective against bladder cancer but is NOT as effective as BCG. BCG is the treatment of choice, but when it cannot be used for some reason, mitomycin can be used instead.

Mitomycin is also often used as a post-op "wash" after a TURB, but this is different than its use as a BCG substitute.

Is mitomycin an effective treatment for non invasive bladder cancer compared to BCG?
Thanks,
Fred
