I have always been TaG1. Slow growing, non-invasive, but recurring frequently. Certainly not life-threatening; which makes me feel like a bit of a whiner sometimes. From 2009 to present, I've had 12 instances of tumors; the initial and 11 recurrences. So I am very hopeful the BCG will slow down the recurrences.

Yes, I had the MMC right after the TURBT; actually in the recovery room. Man, I thought I was going to die for about 2 weeks. The pain and burning were horrible, increased frequency and urgency, but it hurt so bad to urinate, I hated doing it, and my poor little urethra cramped up in protest. Compared to that, BCG is a cake walk. I'll take a low grade fever, aches, and fatigue any day.

Hi Mary , You don't say if you had the mmc at the same time you had the turbt done. If you did that could be why you had so much pain and burning. With the bcg they wait till you heal more from the turbt. My Dr. decided not to install the mmc after my recent turbt he said the pain would have been pretty bad because of the work he had done in my bladder.
I hope you have an easier time with the bcg.

Well, I had the procedure yesterday and it was a breeze! A little tired about 3 hrs after, and very mild aching in my arms. By today I felt back to normal. Absolutely nothing like the MMC, thank God!

If the rest of them go like this, I'll have no problems.

Thanks for your assistance.

I also think a second opinion is called for. As regards the mitomycin after effects compared to bcg, having had both, I would say that for me the mitomycin effects lasted longer, - the bcg was more tolerable, in that the side effects were over fairly soon. But the effects vary a lot from one person to another.
