Biopsies are back. There was no invasive cancer in my bladder and all lymph nodes were negative; however, there was CIS of the right distal ureter. The margins were clean so I'm cured. Of course I'm concerned that I could develop more CIS of the ureter, and since my cytologies have always be negative, I'm not sure how we'd know, but for now, I'll hope it was just an extension from the bladder since that's where the problem has always been. In any event, the fact that there was CIS in the ureter is proof positive that my BCG treatments failed. There is no question about the fact that an early cystectomy was the best and possibly life saving choice for me.

P.S.: cautionary comment to my fellow travelers. The absence of invasive disease is not an argument against cystectomy. If you value your life more than your bladder and have recurrent high grade disease, get that sucker out before you regret your delays or equivocations.
