I am one year out from my cystoscopy with out any other treatment. I was checked every 3 months, and I am still all clear.

I now only have to go in every 6 months to be checked. Unless something else shows up. (Heaven Forbid)

I hope it goes as well for your husband.

Thanks Sara Anne. We have decided not to do the BCG at this point, but will be vigilant about our follow up cystos. Appreciate all the info on the forum... I've read many past posts. Very helpful! My husband is not an internet forum guy, so I research and relay to him :)

You are correct about BCG not necessarily being given for low grade, first occurrence. It is sort of a six of one/half dozen of the other, but I think I probably would opt for the wait and see in this case. You have a good urologist and just be sure you keep the three-month exam schedule!!!

Hi diane, sorry, i omitted the fact that he DID have one mitomycin wash immediately after surgery. The BCG option would be an add on to that.

So, you were ta, high grade in 2006 and had no BCG, and no recurrences until very recently... 7 years? That is awesome news!

Thanks for your quick response.

Hi,
Did he not offer Mytomycin as a treatment. This is in effect a chemotherapy agent which is intoduced into the bladder in the same way as BCG, held for a short period of time and then voided - as it only goes in the bladder and not into the system, the side effects are mainly only localised, so it should not have any adverse effects on the rest of the body.It is often put in the bladder immediately following surgery to remove a tumour. Of course, the monitoring is very important. I had this treatment for highgrade tumour in 2006, and have remained clear until very recently. Worth mentioning to your doctor.

Hello alll, posted a couple weeks ago about my husband...had surgery for solitary 3.8 superficial bladder tumor on Dec. 28 th. today he had a ureter stent removed. Doc confirmed that tumor was low grade 1, ta. This is all good.

He said we have 2 options...monitor with cystos every 3 months for a year or do BCG and monitor. He said tumor is very unlikely to progress, but low grade tumors have high recurrence rates. My husband also has ankylosing spondylitis, an autoimmune condition. Apparently the bcg could cause this to flare? We are with an excellent uro at a large teaching hospital in Chicago. He is very conservative and said he would support either decision...bcg, or no bcg. I have been reading lots of opinions online and it seems most low grad ta tumors are not treated with bcg unless there is a recurrence. We are also concerned about the autoimmune considerations.

Any info you wise folks have would be appreciated. I am hoping someone else here may have had a similar diagnosis...one large, low grade, non invasive tumor. And does anyone else have an autoimmune disease coupled with bcg treatments
