Different urologists use slightly different regimens of BCG. Mine followed the Lamm protocol up to 24 months, but we ceased it at that point. Some don't even use maintenance, although I think the evidence is pretty good that this is important and does increase effectiveness. The only question would be how far to extend this. This is something you and your urologist need to discuss.

I am starting round #6 of BCG. I can't believe that I've had 19 of these treatments so far. I have been following Dr. Lamm's protocol, which I understood to be maintenance treatments at months 3, 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36, and yearly beyond that to year 6, and biannually at years 8, 10 and 12. This is my 24th month round.

So at my December cysto (which was clear!), my urologist said that the protocol had changed, and now there another 6-month interval in this second year, which would be at the 30-month point.

I have to say that the euphoria of the clean cysto was immediately replaced by disappointment at having an additional round of BCG this year. I was so excited at the prospect of only having to face it annually at this point.

Has anyone else heard this?
