Great to hear Ray. :cheer:

Better safe than sorry........An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.......A stitch in time saves nine.........Error on the side of caution.

These saying didn't come along by accident.

I would do the maintenance. But I also will respect any decision you make.

Congrats on your six-month "all clear" from your doc! Sounds like your choice of maintenance BCG is a good one. Hope you breeze right through them to your next all clear.

Best wishes... Catherine

Ray, the "recommended" protocol for BCG is an initial series of six, and then, about every three months, a maintenance series of three. This lasts for about 24 months, total. There is data to show that the maintenance schedule does increase effectiveness.

I wasn't given a choice...but then, I did have CIS. By the time we finished I was also on 1/3 dose. IMHO, the discomfort of the treatments is well worth the fact that the effectiveness is increased!

GO FOR IT!

Hello Folks,

Just received an all clear on my six month check-up and I am very grateful for that. My urologist gave me an option regarding BCG treatments. He said I can be on the safe side and undergo maintenance BCG treatments or not elect to take BCG treatments and just go on the three month look see and take it from there.

I did not have any real adverse conditions from the first six treatments and I know the treatments are cumulative. My cautionary side said to take the treatments because I would be beside myself if I didn't and recurrence occurred. The maintenance treatments would be at 1/3 dosage. I did schedule the treatments and was wondering if anyone out there had a similar situation. In January I did undergo a TURBT and he removed two tumors both low grade but the size of one of them was large 6.5x2.5x0.6 cm. and penetrated the lamina propria with no muscle invasion detected. This one prompted the first six treatments. Any input greatly appreciated.

My thanks to all of you for making this site possible. My blessings to all of you who are less fortunate with their diagnoses than me.

Regards,
Ray
