Another Gary\'s Story

To wrap up my last story, I had the "ugly red spot" removed and bio samples snipped on 3/14. We have an appointment to go in for the bio review on 3/27, but my wife called and asked if the results were back yet. Just heard from the Uro's office in reply to my wife's request for the biopsy report and the finding is "chronic inflammation". I can now put the imagination back in its cave - I think a lot of you know the feeling!

Gary2,

For lack of a better word Welcome to our little world. Looks like your keeping good track the work being done, and keeping on top of the "C".

I hope that Sara Anne is right and its just a irritation from the BCG. We will keep you in our prayers.

Please keep us posted on what is happening. Someone else could be going through the same thing, but isn't ready to post yet. Remember its a trade off we try to help you, but many times you end up helping us.

Thanks again for joining.

Thanks Sare and Catherine for the very quick replies!

My ureter was relocated since it was in the resectioned area, which was about 25% of the bladder's lining. The Uro feared there might be swelling/complications. He moved it to another spot, but I still had to have the stent - NO FUN!

I think this site is wonderful. Although today is my first posting, I have relied on the info here for a lot of first-hand knowledge and confidence. I hope I can add the same for many others!

I will add pic later. If you are curious, I am 63, in good physical condition, do yoga and eat healthily - have gone mostly vegetarian, sometimes fish if I'm in a pinch. I do the flaxseed oil/cottage cheese thing, lemon juice/water, cranberry juice, lots of veggies and fruit, lots of water, vitamins, and a glass of red wine every night (ok - the red wine is MY health tonic).

Welcome to the forum Gary! I'm glad you found us and I'm sure you'll get more responses since many here have had BCG.

I second what Sara Anne said... hope it is just irritation from the treatments. Why did they decide to relocate your ureter?

Best wishes... Catherine

Oh yes, Gary...been there, done that. Twice during my BCG treatments my uro saw something at the cystoscopy that looked like an ugly red spot. Once he did a "quick" biopsy during the cystoscopy (not as bad as advertised! just a quick "pinch.") and determined that, indeed, it was irritation from the BCG.

Hope this is the same for you!!!

OK, I didn't think I would end up posting here because it looked like I was a BCG responder and would walk away clean, BUT cysto today revealed a small (1/2")ugly red spot on back of bladder. The Uro said he thought it might possibly not be C, but inflamation from BCG activity (last one was 11 weeks ago). I go in to be put under for the spot removal next week. Here is snapshot of my history:

- 3/9/2011 TURBT - moved ureter to new spot - stent put in for 5 weeks - cath for 6-7 days
- 6 & 7/2011 BCG, 6 weekly treatments
- 10/2011 Cysto - was "clean" except for a tiny spot thought to be BCG remnant.
- 12/2011 BCG, 3 weekly treatments
- 3/6/12 Cysto , found current 1/2" red spot

The fact that there remained "some" C before start of the first BCG treatments and the subsequent cysto was good was evidence the BCG worked, but now with a 1/2" spot after the second BCG round makes me concerned the BCG didn't work this time.

Has anyone had similar a experience?
