Catherine - In some ways my 3 cystos were easier than today in that I just reported to the hospital, went under, woke up after all the probbing, pushing, scraping was over and went home. I woke up with a catheter twice but removal is far less troublesome than insertion while awake.

Don't we just love the bag.

The cipro should do the trick its a very strong antibiotic. I had a reaction to it and can't use it anymore, but my brother, the pharmacist, said it is really good stuff and that most people handle it well.

I hope you clear up soon, so you can carry on with the treatments.

Hello Bill... So sorry your appointment did not go as planned today. I know how disappointing you must be after steeling yourself for the treatment and then not being able to have it. I do hope the infection clears up very soon and you get back on track.

I found that once I had my first cysto, which had me scared out of my mind, that my anxiety was dialed way back for those that followed. Although cystos are generally more uncomfortable for the guys, it's not something us girls look forward to either. :(

Hope you are feeling better soon and that the Cipro does its thing on that infection!

Best wishes... Catherine

Well I am no longer a “conscious catheter insertion” virgin, but no BCG today. My urine sample showed signs of infection, so we have to treat that with a little Cypro first. The insertion itself was much more uncomfortable than I was expecting. No lidocaine, just a lot lubrication and tow curling. But I endured. My overall situation is complicated by high bladder retention despite use of some flow meds over the last couple of weeks. I was disappointed that the doctor retrieved 1.8L via the catheter after I thought I had fully voided. He suggested I keep the catheter in while we fight the infection to keep the retention to a minimum. I asked if we can use this same inserted device to start BCG next week, thus a avoiding another insertion. He thought would work. So I am home now, disappointed by the fact that we didn’t get the BCG regimen kicked-off today and trying to regain full mobility with that damn bag strapped to my leg ….

Thanks everyone for responses so far. Although not totally reassuring, they are helpful in level setting my expectation which does address my anxiety. I think I will practice curling my toes and the clear pronuication of "li-do-caine" to insure my request gets through. I'll let you know how the first one goes next week.

Bill welcome this is a nice group to be a part of but the dues are kind of steep though. I have moved your post to have it own thread as our moderators felt you deserved you own slot.
