Hi Sara Anne,

Good advice to ask questions and I am finding that this site is a GREAT source for answers.

BTW I am from Fletcher NC not New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Be sure to ask any questions you may have....lots of us have "been there, done that" with respect to BCG!

I note that you are from New Zealand. It will be interesting to see how treatment differs there from here in the US.

I was in New Zealand two years ago...A beautiful place!

Thank you for your response Sara Anne.

I'm kind of new to posting on any forum so please bear with me. I've read so many articles on BCG that my head is spinning. This format I think is going to allow me to communicate with live people and up to date information.

Congratulations on being cancer free for two years. I'll be posting any updates as my treatment progresses.

Regards,

Ray

Ray, your post was moved to this classification since this is where most of the "BCG EXPERTS" post!

Sounds as if you are well on your way. The thing about BCG is that the first few treatments usually go just as yours did. As your bladder, and your body, start to react to it (and this is what you WANT to happen) the reaction can get a little stronger. Fatigue is the most common factor. With me it usually came a day or two after each treatment and lasted about that long. Irritation, blood in the urine, some cramping.

As your treatments progress, if the side effects seem to become more than you can be comfortable with, it is possible for your urologist to reduce the dose significantly without losing any of the effectiveness of it. By the time I finished my maintenance rounds I was down to 1/3 the starting dose. Been two years now with no recurrence!!

Good luck to you.

Sara Anne

Hi Folks,

My name is Ray and I have been diagnosed recently with Bladder Cancer. I have underwent TURBT surgery and 2 tumors were removed. One superficial and one low grade non nvasive. I started BCG treatments last Friday and after the first one I had no hard side affects. Just a little tired and a headache. What can I expect from furthur treatments and what are some questions I should be asking my urologist? I'm happy I found this site.
