Stricture Redux

Just wanted you all to know I had my urethrotomy today, and I'm home. Since I was having penile pain from the last surgery, the current surgery and catheterization has aggravated that. I'll be catheterized for 10 days and start self-catheterization as soon as it comes out.
Men: my urologist wants the catheter taped upward to avoid an additional cause of urethral stricture associated with long-term catheterization. I left the hospital with it taped to my leg. Even though the tubing didn't have an extension like it did after my last surgery, I was able to tape the catheter up to my abdomen with the bag high on my thigh. It is so much more comfortable that way, especially since leg movement doesn't yank the catheter.

I really don't think I'll mind the self-catheterization. I just hope it works. The last time I had so much inflammation that a 14 fr. wouldn't pass through on the second attempt. The first attempt was fine but caused the inflammation to get worse.

Warren, I have been recently "closing off" myself. I go in Tuesday to get opened up again. Mine is scar tissue at the urethra to Neobladder connection. They will balloon it open, again. The first time was 2 months after surgery. This time the doctor said he could be more aggressive since I am 8 months post op, and hopefully the last time he has to do it.
I will continue to cath every other day to encourage the urethra to stay open. Not my favorite thing to do, but a small price to pay to pee!!!!

I suppose it is like a keloid, but I never get keloids on my surgical scars. I don't know about prevention, other than the planned attempt at self catheterization to keep it open.

Warren,

I remember a "keloid" skin condition on skin peoples wounds. Leaves a raised/red, noticable scar. Is this something similar? Is there anything that can be done preventive wise?

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.
