Vi,

I think Pat is definately on to something there. Can you try to enlist the help of your local urologist in getting your insurance to cover going to UCCC?

My urologist referred me to UCCC but I didn't have an issue with insurance and mine covered going to UCCC and to MD Anderson for my 2nd and 3rd opinions.

Worth a shot. In any case, a urologist is the correct path. At UCCC, it called urological oncology (so it's a two for one kind of thing).

Well..does your doctor have equipment and experience with bladder cancer? How many bladder cancer patients does he see in a year say? Has he ever done surgery for bladder cancer?
Is he limited in what he can do? Ask him.
I'll bet you have a case for review.

Wow, thank you all for the fast response to this.

UCCC is where I called to get the second opinion. The scheduler I talked to is the one that explained that my insurance would not cover a second opinion with them on the plan that I have. She learned this when another person had problems with the insurance.
Checked the fine print (it specifically lists them) and called... They will only cover the university if my doctor does not have equipment/technology needed for my situation and that is not the case.

Open enrollment I can change to the more expensive plan that she thought might let me go there, but thought I could do something here in town now. Our hospital has a cancer center and when I called them, they just have oncologists...thus my question.

Mike I was in the middle of moving this post to non invasive from chit chat and it looks as if you were posting at the same instant I moved it. It also looks like it did something interesting to the database...I wonder if we get extra points for that.

Not sure where my first reply to this is hiding. It showed up in the index and said I was the last post, but when I came here it was not here.

The count of replies seems to think my first reply is here also.

Anyway, what I said was:

Vi,

Is it that UCCC does not accept your particular insurance or that your insurance has some problem with the 2nd opinion.

When I first went to UCCC, I had Humana. The following year my company switched to Blue Cross Blue Shield and UCCC was "in network" for both insurance companies.
