I am having abdominal pain and headaches following my BCG therapy, going for number 5 tomorrow and some constipation. Is this normal.

Bill,

Patricia gave you good advice about potential TB even though I opine and trust that it probably isn't. I had a UTI after my 7th BCG instillation (my Uro did 6 on , 6 off then 6 on to finish his protocol). Then my 12th month cysto (on 3 month checks) I had another UTI with antibiotics for 14 days. Just finished my 15th month today and he gave me 3 days of Cipro as a pre-caution. Good news for me-no cancer. Have to wait for the cytology but, he says I look good! Suspicion that the prostate or the tip of my uretha harbor some bacteria that got stirred up. Hopefully this will be the last time for you and me that nuisance.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Whew! That is the best news! Hopefully, this infection, can be cleared up quickly, and you can have a celebration before the next BCG.
Take a deep breath and sleep well tonight:P

Thanks Pat for the heads up. I did have a "slice biopsy" of the prostate during my TURB. This horrible pain started 2-weeks after the 1st 6-BCGs. The Uro even said, the prostate infection could have come from the BCG.

I have e-mailed him, relative to your post! Thanks a million. Todays cysto has really added to the pain :S

Make sure you have a correct diagosis by a great pathologist on this.......
The finding of an epididymal inflammation or mass in any man who has previously undergone BCG instillation therapy (and especially if he had undergone prostatic resection before those instillations) should trigger suspicion for the possibility of a BCG tuberculous cause. A heightened index of suspicion, which leads to timely diagnosis and prompt initiation of appropriate antituberculous therapy, is of key importance.
You may need a infectious disease specialist.
