How long will I have side effects from tur surgery

Hi Al,

Thanks for your post. About two weeks ago I was given a prescription for Ambien to help me sleep better and Imipridan (sp?) to help calm the bladder. It's actually an anti depressant that happens to help the bladder. This after the Detrol and Vesicare didn't help. After five days there didn't seem to be any improvement but I kept taking it. Then, at 7 and a half weeks out, things seemed to be improving. I don't know if it's the medicine or my bladder is finally healing on its own. Either way, since last Wednesday (Mar. 18,09) I've continued, slowly, to improve. In one week I went from waking 11 times in the night to two. I'm not at 100% but definitely getting there. Thanks for all the advice.

I had similiar symptoms about 1 week after TURBT which was on 2/20/09 - my uro prescribed Sanctura, its expensive but it worked for me. I was on it for almost 2 weeks but had to get off it because of constipation (even tho I was taking daily stool softener and a mild laxative). Since getting off - I still have the spasms but they are much more managable now.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dan,
Also had quite a long while with a very tetchy bladder after TUR and mitomycin, Was prescribed Detrutisol for a while which helped a lot, but now 2 yrs on am fine, no lasting side effects and at present cancer free. Still find things like caffeine and alcohol irritate my bladder, but no complaints.Diane

Thanks, Doug. I guess I thought of this surgery as just a minor inconvenience...like having a skin tag removed. I had even made plans for the next day. Obviously that didn't happen. But I returned to work probably too soon. Next time, if I need another surgery, I'll take some time off. Thanks again.

I have always been off work for 1 week after TUR. I would recommend that if you ever have to have surgery again.

Jack and Pat,

Thanks you for the info. It's good to have input from someone who went through the same thing. Maybe I'm just slow to heal. I will ask my doctor about other alternatives to relieve the spasms.. Thanks again for posting.
