Just a follow up on the Mitomycin side effects. I saw my primary doctor last Friday and discussed the chills and fatique. He feels there is no relationship with the mitomycin, but advised that I discuss it it my my Uro. on the next visit. He is doing some additional blood workup (thyroid, etc.). He said if he had to guess, he would say it is the Avodart (testosterone blocker) that is the cause. I'm fighting BPH over the last few years and seem to be a losing battle. Speaking of BPH and it's treatment, does anyone know the difference between green laser and blue laser surgery. I find green laser surgery with some of the web sites, but have not found anything about blue laser. My Uro. spoke of blue laser as an option if my symptoms continued to progress. As always, I appreciate the advise and support.

I had bladder irritation issues for about 12 months following MMC, but don·t know if it was the MMC or TURB that triggered problems. Anyway, no really bad side effects. But funny you mention skin rash, Pat. I had a load of small reddish, purplish dots appeared shortly after last treatment, mainly on thighs and abdomen. They lasred about six weeks then just gradually disappeared. No itch or irritation just dots.

i'd let your doctor know about it....
Systemic toxicities, such as chills, fever and malaise, were observed with both MMC and BCG (12% and 19%, respectively) although skin rash was more common with MMC.
so it can happen.........Pat

Thank you all for your reply. Patricia, I think I follow your response. I have a couple of what I'm thinking are prolonged side-effects. However, they may have nothing to do with the Mitomycin. One is I get chilled easily and can't get warm. I'll stayed chilled for hours. The other is the fatigue. I'm not sure either one is related to the Mitomycin. I don't know if I should discuss this with my urologist or my regular physcian. Blood work that has been done over the last year has not been indictative of anything (i.e. anemia, etc.) Then perhaps it's all between my ears!

good question. Half life of mitomycin is 8 to 48 minutes......
Mitomycin is activated in vivo to a bifunctional and trifunctional alkylating agent. Binding to DNA leads to cross-linking and inhibition of DNA synthesis and function. Mitomycin is cell cycle phase-nonspecific.......so like the energizer bunny it just keeps working and working..........
Was that an answer?

Unlike BCG which is a lving organism and causes an immune response, the Mitomycin C is an anticancer drug. I can't tell you how quickly it's eliminated from the body although I'm sure that information is available someplace like the PDR, a pharmacology text, and certainly the information that the manufacturer provides in the package. Maybe Pat has an answer since she has a lot of knowledge and information about medications. I'm expect it's out of the body within days if not hours.
