Well, since I have to do this 3 times a week for the rest of my life, I want to limit the self medication. I'm sure I'll be a lot calmer tonight when I go for self cath #2.
Now the thing that bothers me is that I just found out that even with my supplier giving me a break the catheters run about $5 each. Even though my urologist says to use each one for a week, I'd rather use a fresh, new, sterile one each time. Have to see if my insurance covers any of this. Maybe after I get used to this I can switch to a generic, straight tipped catheter instead of the Bard Coude tip.

Warren - Those of us who might have to do this to ourselves one day thank you. Have you considered putting in some lidocaine first like they do before a cysto? I think you're definitely right about taking the xanax before rather than after. My uro always tells me to relax - it goes easier. So even for a regular cysto I pop a valium and vicodin about an hour before. Been doing this for years and haven't become addicted yet...although I'm getting a little crazy in my old age (68). cheers, brewster

Ouch!!It is amazing to me, what we can do if we have to. You have certainly proved that theory:) You seem to be progressing each day (easy for me to say)
Keep updating, as I am sure you are helping all of us, who might be in the same place one day in the future! Stay strong.............
