The trick is to let the air out of the balloon part in your bladder before you pull it out-;-)

And yet I feel like a whiner because nobody seems to have the degree of pain I have with the stricture or the persistence of pain and urinary symptoms after procedures. My urologist says I have a sensitive urinary tract. Lucky me. I would be OK with the discomfort of dilations and self catheterization if only I would have no symptoms afterwards (i.e., between procedures or after).

Oh, BTW David, I got so caught up in my stricture response I forgot your question regarding Peyronie's. Thankfully I have been spared. The stricture has turned out to be more than enough to bear.... and yet I have to consider myself lucky since I remain cancer-free.

No question that the stricture is a result of treatment. A traumatic catheterization during the mitomycin C treatment resulted in urethritis with each subsequent treatment. The stricture became eveident 4 years later, and had to be dilated for each subsequent cystoscopy in order for the scope to pass. Since dilations tear (damage) tissue, with each procedure the stricture just got worse and worse.
The catheter's out now. I was supposed to remove it Monday morning, but by Sunday night had had all I could tolerate. I didn't even sleep well with it since I was constantly waking feeling like I had to pee anyway. And I couldn't move without feeling it.
Today I had to travel 2 hours to my wife's uncle's funeral. Another sad story. I really didn't know if I could handle the trip, but somehow made it. Perhaps the healing has begun.
I hope self catheterization works as a method to keep the stricture open without resulting in my having constant urinary irritation.
