Nix - you may want to discuss with your Uro the possibility of receiving a reduced BCG dose.

I've only occasionally had spasms and that was right after TURBS in recovery room.
I hope you feel better Nix. The tub and heating pad sound like a good idea. I am following you as well with BCG starting Jan-Feb. I am going to pay close attention regarding spasms.
Feel better soon.

I didn't get spasms after my 6 weeks BCG, but we'll see what happens come January when I go for the first 3-week maintenance. However,I've had bladder spasm problems with just the cystos; I've tried urelle (taken 1/2 hour before the cysto) and have also tried just plain old ibuprufen, taken before and after. The thing that's helped the most is getting into a hot bath immediately after getting home from the cysto; at first, I'd do this once the spasms started, but now I've found that if I get in the tub right away, it does seem a lot better. Actually, I will say that the more cystos I've had (over two year's worth, every 3 months, to date), the better accustomed my bladder seems to get, or my "innards" are getting toughened up. Also, the urologist has found that tipping me backwards slightly during the exam seems to help with pain and discomfort, as he says my urethra is "tipped" so when he inclines me it's straight (relative to the cystoscope). I think some spasms may be due not just to the BCG itself but to the introduction of the foreign object into your urethra and bladder.

Best of luck with the rest of your BCG treatments; I'm following along behind you.:cheer:

Small TA Grade 1, May-06; recur (2 tiny), same, June-08; TURBTs both times. BCG begun July-08, dosage to 1/3rd May-10, completed treatment December-11. All clear since 2008.

My urologist gave me oxybtynin (brand name Ditropan). That really helped ease the spasms after my TURB procedure and after the BCG treatments when I had the spasms (only after 2 of the 6 thankfully). A heating pad or a soak in some warm water also helped. Good Luck!

Since starting through BCG over a year ago - 6 Treatments then two maintenance (I am on my third maintenance now) I have had spasms, getting worse each time. I did try Urelle once, and had a reaction so now I take Detrol LA. The spams get worse each time. I had my first of three BCG yesterday and have had spasms ever since.
Does anyone know of any relief I can get. I have two more doses to go through and dread the after effects:(
The one thought that gets me through is that the BCG is working. But if you know of any relief I would be very greatful:)
