Did you smoke?

I was indeed a smoker, and I'm sure that it was, at the very least, a contributing factor. Smoking is somewhat akin to playing Russian Roulette. Unfortunately, it is an addiction easily acquired and extremely difficult to shake. I finally was able to do so, some 8 months ago, but it's a bit like closing the gate after the horses have fled.

Since we know smoking can cause bladder cancer I am wondering how many of us smoked/smokes?

I had quit for almost 6 years when I was diagnosed. I had no idea smoking could cause this type of cancer. The urologist's first statement to me after the cystoscopy was " how many cigarettes do you smoke?" I proudly said I didn't smoke anymore.
I am glad I had quit when I did and now I tell other smokers what happened to me.

Last week I read in a Time magazine ( not sure which issue) that not as much research dollars are put into bladder cancer versus for example breast cancer but they did report that one research finding stated that people with bladder cancer and smoked had a defective gene that resulted in bladder cancer 100%.
Unfortunately they did not provide a link to the statement. Go figure.
