Did you smoke?

I have never smoked but like many of you, my parents were heavy smokers. I think second hand smoke particularly as a child can have a bad effect.

I also had interstitial cytitis for many, many years which causes frequent urination. Because of that, I rarely drank anything except at meals. One of the causes is not drinking enough fluids. I guess we all have our own ideas about why we have developed bladder cancer. It would be great if we really knew and as someone said, there isn't a lot of money cast our way. Why is that? It is a leading cancer.

Alan.....ok figure this one out...i know of two sets of identical twins ..same everything.......neither of the sets smoked....one in each set has blc and the other doesn't. Both had same exposures at birth and growing up.....only variable is they live in different cities. Soooooooooooooo.........that one really perks my curiousity:unsure: Pat

I never smoked and was never around second hand smoke. So go figure. (I've been fighting low-grade, superficial BLC for 7 years but have recently had a more serious recurrance and am looking at possible RC.)

Never smoked except for maybe 40 cigars over 20 years. Had an uncle dx with BLC at age 85. I also know of 2 brothers at around 60 dx with blc and both smoked. There almost has to be a faulty gene (as shown from some studies) on some plus carcinogens from smoking causing some coupled with weak systems. Don't know where that leaves me. Unlucky? Or a bad gene. Or getting older.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Slabman......i ate and still do eat broccoli every week..maybe twice a week...so rule that one out:P
I have a rather unique explanation...i was congratulating myself on not having a cold for 3 yrs and then i got gross hematura.....my thinking is my immune system just didn't have anything to do and got lazy and let that little bugger grow in my bladder. Ya think?:S Pat

Because of my very strong avoidance of smoke, I really doubt this was my cause. Rather, I put it down to the fact that I fought a staph infection for several months last year just prior to developing the tumor. In my own simplistic mindset, I think my immune system was busy fighting this staph, allowing the cancer cells to multiply.

On the other hand, could it be my reluctance to eat broccoli all those years?
