Just to add my $0.02: I had a recurrence 1 year post-TURB. I'd like to think it was the last, but I know better.

The hardest part for me was understanding I would never hear "you are cancer free and never have to worry about bladder cancer again" Going into this, I thought I could defeat the bladder cancer and move on. I guess the good news is - I can move on, with the help of all the cystos and tests. I guess it is just something we have to learn to live with - the operative word is "live", and someday there may be a real cure - forever:)

I know of a brother of a friend that I grew up with who had Bladder Cancer over 10 years ago. The Doctor told him that it was the largest tumor he had ever seen. I'm not clear whether my friend's brother has had treatment, but I get the intuition that he has not had treatment. The Bladder Cancer has never returned. I talked to this guy over the phone for a few minutes once and he told me that his Doctor told him that he wouldn't have given a nickle for his chances for nonrecurrance over the past 10 years.

My brother's friend told me, and I quote, "There's nothing to this bladder cancer." :woohoo: :silly:

Right, that's HIS experience. I've heard of it coming back after 20 years or more....My doctor even told me that, he said, "It's going to come back. It might take 20 years."

One question, though..... HOW THE HECK DOES HE KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN?

I totally understand your question it is unrealistic, I read all the posts here and all around different sites looking for the magic answer that will say dont worry sarahlee youve made it and now you will never have a reacurrance, but its not here, its not anywhere, its all different, so if your ok this one moment this hour this day,now hey its all weve got. I still see a post and try to identify with the good ones, the lucky clean ones , always clean for years, but then come across some really sweet person that isnt so lucky,so we shoot the dice ,I wish there was an answer to but I think the answer to the question is there is no one answer I wish that say after 2 years and 3 months and 3 days and 6hrs if you are clean hey no more worries, I wish too I still read everything I can searching for the answer to the question you ask, theres no answer, only stories of what can happen ,whats happening and how to deal with it,thats reall all weve got ,but it can help all the stories ,they help the tellers and the readers so Ill keep looking for answers if you ever find the answer let me know okay and good luck along the way.and congrats on you latest test ;)
