Does anyone know Dr. Sam S Chang at Vanderbilt; he is my husband’s urologist/oncologist. My husband was diagnosed in June with superficial/CIS. He has had 6 BCG & is going back 1/25/08 for poke & peek. We are really anxious to hear from pathology.

I've heard good things about Dr. Smith at Vanderbilt and Dr. Kamat at MD Anderson as well as Dr. Schoenberg.

Dr. Stein at USC/Norris (he did my surgery - I highly recommend him or anyone else at that cancer center). Surgeons at USC/Norris routinely remove 60 or more lymph nodes, especially important for someone with muscle-invasive blc.

If you're gonna have this surgery, you're smart to use one of the best docs at a highly rated institution.

Dx 7/04, CIS + T1G3, Age 50
2 TURBTs
12 BCGs
Cystectomy 8/05 USC/Norris
So far, so good (kow)

I went back and read some of your other posts. You sound just like me when i found out i had bladder cancer.(ask the others here they will tell you about me).I went to 4 different doctors and had my slides looked at by 4 different pathologist(Well come to think of it maybe you don't sound like me) I had a muscle invasive tumor. Dr Schoenberg did a TURB of the original tumor site and 4 other random spots in my bladder and found no cancer. He would not tell me what to do as far as having my bladder removed. All he would tell me is what the research stastics were. I figured out that the way he and others look at it is just because they didn't find anything doesn't mean it's not there. I told him one day that i pray nothing like this ever happen to him but ask what he would do if he was me. He said have the surgery. After my bladder was removed the patholologist found no cancer in my bladder but said i did have a small amount in the prostate cancer which was removed at the same time the bladder was removed. At this time i do everything i was doing before surgery with the execption of thinking about cancer all the time. I kept telling everyone that after my bladder was removed the pathologist report would come back negative and i would be sorry i had my bladder removed. Everyone would tell me that a negative report is what i should hope for. :o Took me awhile to figure that out. Dr Schoenberg is very good with nerve sparing surgery which was important to me. I don't know how he knew but as soon as i woke up from surgery he told me that the nerve sparing went really well and he was right. It did. Just thought i would share some of this with you.

Hi Sol

Dr.Mark Shoenberg at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore Maryland did my neobladder on 10-22-07. I am 47 years old and doing very good since surgery. Dr.Shoenberg is one of the best in the U.S. for bladder cancer. I see other people on here speak of good doctors in other cities. I would recommend Mark if you are close to Maryland. My wife and i traveled 5 hours for him to do my surgery. If you have any questions or would like to know more PM me and i will send you my phone number. Wayne.

Sincerely,
