We grew up in the Bronx until we were 11 when the Cross Bronx Expressway came through 1 block from our house. Then we moved upstate to Rockland County. After college our lives shifted around a bit, but my twin ended up back in Rockland and I ended up in Long Island. Just in case you're seriously considering the oncologic potential of living in Long Island and haven't read my story on the story board, 10 months before my bladder cancer, I had a Leydig cell tumor of the testis -very rare. They sent it to the army pathologists for a second opinion and the conclusion was that it probably wasn't malignant.

Haha, living in Long Island and stress seems to be the cause in your case. Mattsmudder, I did an in depth study of hair dye as it does keep coming up as a cause of certain cancers. It was attributed to Jackie Kennedy's cancer. What I learned is a component that was used until 1975 in dark hair dyes is no longer used in present day hair dyes so that the threat of that chemical in hair dyes is no longer an issue. I accept that completely so I can confidantly continue to keep my curls young and dark brown. Rosie

After I was disagnosed I got real paranoid about coloring my hair. I was even ready to go gray. Then I asked my urologist/oncologist about it. She laughed and told me I had nothing to worry about. Unless your handling hair dye all the time there is very little chance that it caused the b/c. So I'm back to coloring.

Oops. Looks like I've replied to this one before. Oh well, at least I'm consistent in what I said.

Well, I hope it's not genes, because in the 6¾ years since my big C event my identical twin has been spared. And in my life I've had ½ cigarette, 2 puffs of a cigar, and pot twice 37 years ago. Now stress, I've had plenty, but if that was the cause of cancer, every organ in my body would be taken over by now. I suspect living in Long Island, NY is what did it for me.
