Urologist in Sacramento Area

I only have this to go on. He heads up the department which means lots of years in the trenches. He also is well thought of by the guys at UCSF. But we have not seen him and do not know who has. But it may be worth a visit to see for yourself.

P.S. If you would rather try a doc that one of us has used then I say head into UCSF and get in to see one of Dr. Carrolls' team, like Dr. Konety or Dr. Kane. You can ask for an apppointment via Susan Smith the Chiarman's (Peter Carroll's) Cinical Admin. Dr. Carroll himself is my husband's do bt we have also see Konety and like all the staff we have met there inclduing nurses, NP's and Fellows. Susan's direct number is 415-353-9876.

It's not uncommon for pathology slides to be misread, and therefore if you're unsure it's most definately a good idea to get a second opinion.  This is something that could give you valuable information, from it being a verification to your current pathology report to it being a completely different reading.  
Although this isn't about bladder cancer, my sister recently had a chest x-ray that showed a lung mass of 4 1/2 cms, they did a chest ct which showed the lung mass and another mass in her liver of 7 cms.  They did a liver biopsy and the pathologists read it as " 'Proabably' a primary of lung ca with metastasis to the liver", fortunately we have a cousin who is married to a forensic pathologist.  We had the images  sent to him and he requested another test be done on the biopsy sample, when he received those images he read it as Metastatic Malignant Melanoma.  The pathologist/s that read it originally are in what is purported to be a major cancer center in northern Illinois, although it's not like a NorthWestern or Mayo or Cleveland Clinics or Sloan Kettering or Norris, etc., but...  So there are differences.  Please be very careful with your own situation.

You may have already found someone to do a second opinion but if not here are two great places in the northern California bay area to seek out. Joseph Presti, MD at Stanford Urology Dept. (relatively easy to get into see without a long wait) or Badrinath Konety at UCSF (very focused on bladder cancer and close colleague of Dr. Lamm). Both will ask for slides and your other diagnostic tests for their pathologists and radiologists to do a re-reading for them.

As most of the forum folks will tell you, getting a second opinion from a major med center with bladder cancer specialists is strongly advised.

I know L.A. and Sacramento are two different places, but the *best* uro-pathologist (maybe in the world) is in USC/Norris, name of Richard Cote.

Many people get second path opinions as it's a subjective field and opinions sometimes differ, which can change treatment plans rather radically sometimes.
