Hi Everyone.
Thank you for your replies on my dad's bladder cancer. In response to the question on if he has been to a cancer center other than his local doctor, the answer would unfortunately have to be no. That is where we feel as if we are stuck. You see, my dad was forced to retire this past December from his company and did not have health insurance after Jan. of this year. Well, wouldn't you know that he was re-diagnosed with his bladder cancer shortly after that. I took him down to the Dept. of Social Services to see if he qualified for any assistance to help out. He did not qualify for Medicare because he is only 64yrs. old, not 65. He was able to qualify for medicaid, only through a loop hole though. Unfortunately though he has not received the best of care with medicaid, I have literally had to push and pull for him to finally get his PET scan (his treatments ended 3 1/2 months ago and he is just now getting it) The doctors at the clinic that he has to see all pretty much rotate in and out so he doesn't normally see the same doctor every time as far as the urology part goes. He does see a pretty good radiology oncologist, but he too has drug his feet lately. I feel pretty certain that his cancer has spread because he is back to losing weight again and has no appetite, would I will get the results of the scan on Monday, so I will know more then. I know that he would be interested in clinical trials, but will anyone accept medicaid for that? I really don't know much about those. Will he be able to attend a cancer center such as Duke with medicaid? I hope everyone has a wonderful day and Halloween.
