Hi Karen,

Seems to me I have heard of chemo being used with radiation only in certain circumstances, too. Wish my chemo brain could remember where tho. If I recall correctly, it has to do with the chemo making the cancer more sensitive to the radiation thus more effective. I will try to find it again, Best wishes, Holly

Hi Joe,

Does what you are quoting say anything about them being at the same time? I know that both can be used, my concern and question is can you be treated at the same time with chemo & radiation? For instance chemo on Mon. & Tues. Radiation on Thurs. & Fri...repeat the next week (for example). And is this very risky. Or was you answer that you can be?

Thanks,
Karen

Facts About Radiation Therapy

* About 60 percent of all cancer patients will require radiation therapy as part of their care.

* Radiation therapy can be used to help cure cancer or to relieve symptoms alone or in combination with other therapies, such as surgery or chemotherapy.

* Most patients who need radiation will have treatments four or five days a week for five to seven weeks.

* Most people receive radiation for one to five minutes per treatment.

Karen hope this helps you out some looks like a greenlight to me. Joe

I am wondering if anyone received/ or heard of anyone receiving Radiation (localized) during Chemo Treatment?

The topic was brought up because my husband is having tremendous pain in his shoulder due to the cancer that spread there. He was actually given morphine last night for the pain while in the hospital for his new chemo regiment (CMV). (Some of you might remember that my husband has been trying to avoid narcotics as long as possible)

Has this been done before?

Are the side effects less when they are targeting a specific spot only?

Any help would be great..
