Some surprising developments

Boy, oh, boy....I think yesterday was one of the worst days of my life. I don't think I have ever felt so weak, sick, constipated and generally miserable. My daughter, God Bless Her, was here with me all day and my granddaughter all evening. This morning is a little better but I sure hope I don't repeat yesterday. On top of it all my bag leaked twice because my urine is so slimely. Just one more thing to add to the mix. I am trying to focus, see the light and stay calm and let the cisplatin do it's work but it sure is a task. I admire thosse who have gone before me. You really are such brave warriors and I don't know what I would do without you.

Keep asking if they will be sure to hydrate you before, during and after chemo is run. It was a blessing for Jim. The one time that it was tried to speed up treatment, not hydrating as much he had a much harder time afterwards. Keep enjoying the good times.

The end of last week (thurs) I was so dehydrated they took me by ambulance to the hospital with a possible heart attack. It turned out to be severe esophageal spasms and I was kept overnight. So when I had my chemo on Monday they gave me some powerful anti nausea stuff first and it really has helped. Today was a wonderful day. I took a walk and sat in the sun. I know tomorrow might be awful so I amreally enjoying the good hours that I have and my family has been wonderful. Thank you all for your encouragement. This journey is much easier with all of you.

Jim did the 6 mos of gem/cis and it wasn't the easiet thing he's ever done in his life but it sure beats the possible alternative. Sometimes we just have to dow what we have to. keep us all posted here on how you are doing. The nausea thing isn't there since they pre medicate with anti nausea drugs and be sure to have them hyperhydrate you before during and after the chemo. That helped Jim a whole lot. Yeah Jean! I'm glad you feel so energized. It sounds like you have a great facility for chemo. Keep doing what you can and don't be too hard on your self if you can't do some things. Remember the "support staff", they are there for a reason. (mine get really mad at me when I don't let them help...)

Well, I had my first chemo today. Cisplatin and Gemzar and I really did well. They gave me steroids first, than antinausea stuff, then all the rest. I feel better than I have in a month. I can't imagine it is already working and it is probably the steroids. I have an incredible support system. I am so blessed to have my family. The facility is wonderful and the room where you get your chemo is all glass in an area of trees, bushes, birds and beauty. I pictured little pacman angels eating up the cancer cells while I was having my treatment, listening to my music. So, all in all, the "old lady" isn't doing to bad.
