Patricia has a history of post surgery blood clot problems and was more than a little leary of such drugs. According to her the risk is not great. This is the reference she had:

Pat,

Wanted to ask about your post where you said "This is the drug paclitaxel. I know its one i cannot take as i had a previous DVT and its contraindicated in anyone who has had one."

I am curious because doctors are recommending abraxane for my husband and he had 2 DVTs last year (one which required surgery). They are aware of this so I am obviously now concerned. Could you tell me where you obtained this information regarding DVT?

Thanks

New to this site but not to bladder cancer. Husband about to begin abraxane and looking for update. Had neoadjuvant chemo cis/gemzar in 2005 followed by RC with neobladder. All clear for almost 5 years, began carbo/gem in November; after 4 cycles slight increase in lymph nodes; now to begin abraxane. Haven't seen much about this drug...looking for info.

Thanks

Hi Jack

i've been on Abraxane for 8 cycles, the first couple cycles showed signs of shrinkage to one tumor (from 35mm to 29mm) and everything else was stable. but now after 8 cycles the spots in the liver showed alittle growth, and they decided it was time to stop the Abraxane, and move on to another clinical trail drug call Sutent.
side effects were mostly fatigue and muscle ache. they both seemed to get worse or longer to shake the more treatments i had.
if you have anymore questions you can e-mail me Jack

Hi Jack...well this drug has previously been used for metastatic breast cancer and since 2008 has been in trials for bladder cancer that has not responded to BCG.

AS for side effects about the same as any of the others

This is the drug paclitaxel. I know its one i cannot take as i had a previous DVT and its contraindicated in anyone who has had one.
Hope this sorta helps.......Pat
as an added not the side effects listed are not for intravesical use and i cannot find anything yet on the trial as no results have been published??...So i would imagine since its not systemic side effects may not be that drastic? Sorry about that Jack...........Pat

Hi Friends
A fellow warrior has asked that I try to find information on the single chemo Abraxane. His Uro has recommended he enroll in a clinical trial Phase 11 using this new treatment.

clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00683059

1. Anyone have experience with this new of chemo?
2. If so, what are the side effects?
3. Can you report any results using this new chemo for bladder cancer?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide,
Jack
