another sleepless night...

This is very scary, Melissa. I didn't even know there were places that would do chemo without blood work. We always had blood work, and then had to wait for the results before going to the chemo suite. This is, unfortunately, the way we learn, isn't it, by someone making a mistake. That adds one more thing to check before chemo.

My husband has been hospitalized after each chemo this past round of treatments, so I know how scary it can be. Fortunately, each time, he bounced back.

I am so sorry Melissa. All I can tell you is my doctor will not start chemo without blood results. They only take a day to come back in my office. I hope the IV works and that your dads kidneys continue to function.

Yesterday, my mother called and told me that the oncologist got my father's blood work back and that his kidneys are not functioning properly....here is the kicker, they took the blood last week and did not wait for the results before giving him chemo on Monday. Last night the office called and said that he needs to go to the ER. Is this customary? Shouldn't the Dr. put a rush on blood work before giving someone more chemo? especially when my father was hospitalized after the last treatment!

so once at the ER, they waited of course and hooked him up to an IV. They took more blood and told them that if the IV did not help that he could have perm. kidney damage! I am furious, sad, and nervous at this point...any advice appreciated!
