Ooooh...there are lots of drugs out there that cause night terrors. I actually got them from a course of Tenormin( a beta blocker) many years ago that my cardiologist gave me to slow down my adrenalin production which was causing panic attacts ( i have mitral valve prolapse)...they were so unbelievably terrifying i would wake up crying and wonder where in my demented brain could i come up with such horrible images. Needless to say i went off the Tenormin. But there are many drugs that can have the same effect.

Well, they didn't give me ambien because they were afraid it might make it worse,
so that fits. Also, I was anemic, too last week and got two units of blood.
I do wonder if others report trouble with nightmares, because it is a disturbing issue -- thanks

Susan,

Those nightmares are so frightening that Angelo is still having trouble sleeping...He is refusing the Ambien now, he thinks this just adds to the effect. We did find out that he was anemic (9.7)...he got a blood transfusion today (2 units)...the nurses said that being anemic can make you short of breath, which in combination with the narcotics he is on can easily cause nightmares that you can't breathe...

Susan you are right, and I do wonder how prevalent it is.

I read a while back that Karen reported a nightmare problem her husband had and I've been meaning to start this topic since. After my first cycle of my most recent chemotherapy, I had nightmares that scared me because I somehow lost the
ability to determine "this is just a dream" that I usually have even with scary dreams. I won't go into the details of the dreams, not wanting to suggest them to others, but when I asked my Dr. he said tha some of my medications and pre-medications could cause nightmares (maybe the Ifex and the steriods, I hope I remember corectly.) Well, it got so I was afraid to go to sleep because
I was afraid of nightmares/nightterrors. I just got sleeping ok again
when I got home and in my own bed.

The doctor didn't want to give me something for anxiety or sleep for fear of making the dreams worse.

I wonder, Karen, if there are others except Angelo and me who have had nightmaore issues.

We don't need 'em! Susan
