Has anyone heard anything about there not being a generic for oxycontin?

I did call our Dr. and they had never heard that the generic is not available now. They did write another prescription and I picked it up and had it filled. Even though I had to drive 47.4 miles to get the 2nd prescription too, it was a heck of a lot cheaper than $800.

Also, I called the FDA to see what was going on and they called back and told me there is a lawsuit between the two companies and the generic is not being made. They said there is nothing they can do but I thought it was good that they looked into it and answered my question.

Thanks for all your input and maybe this will help someone else too.

If the generic isn't available in your area ask your doctor to prescribe something else. There are plenty of narcotic pain meds to chose from.

Hi Clara,

I know there is generic as I had to start on it just last week. The pain in my hip is bad and hyrocodone still left me about at 5 or better on the 1- 10 pain scale. I take 10 mg 2 times a day and it has made a huge difference. I was afraid it would make my brain worse, but it has been working out well. When I had the script filled I asked for generic and there was no problem. It says oxycodone on my bottle.
God Bless, Holly

Hi Clara,

I think it is called Roxicodine...If they are giving him the "SR" or the "Slow Release" I am not sure if there is a generic for that. Give me a call tonight if you can't figure it out, I may have an idea for you....Don't pay the $800.00 yet...

We picked a prescription up for oxycodone 20 mg and dropped it off at CVS today. They called and said there was no longer a generic for oxycontin so therefore since we are in the "doughnut hole" on our prescriptions for Bob, the cost will be over $800.
I called the insurance company and they agreed that there was no longer a generic.
Next, I called our dr. office, the nurse called me back and said she had not heard anything about this and she was going to call CVS.
I have not heard back yet.....just wondering if anyone was online that knew anything about this.
