I have to chime in with what Sara Anne said. After 7.5 years of in the clear and continued no re-occurrence with increasing irritation of the bladder I'd certainly discuss stopping the BCG. There is no perfect protocol and I do have an friend that went to far almost ruining his bladder. After 3 or 4 years it has come back to a more normal state. Thanks for sharing your freedom from this disease! It encourages all of us.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Congratulations on 7-1/2 years! Wishing you many more!

While Dr. Lamm is the "Father" of BCG treatment for bladder cancer, today most urologists do not use that exact protocol but rather one that lasts about two years with maintenance treatments after the initial 6 doses. If I were you I would discuss with my urologist discontinuing BCG. Once you have shown issues such as yours they may only get worse. For those in the early stages of treatment where side effects become troublesome a much reduced dose can be effective. But in your case you have been on this for a long time.

Please remember that we are not physicians, and discuss this seriously with your urologist.
