I am probably not getting enough activity. Your suggestions are spot on and I appreciate your help. I spoke to my surgeon who is considering a stent. I am just so tired of it all.

2/2011: diagnosed with non invasive Type1 stage1...and had turbt in march....first follow up 5/19/11, had laser again as it re-occurred.

Alanlee, I am sorry I thought for some reason you had a Neobladder. Some find that they are not emptying completely and that it can cause UTI's. No matter what kind of diversion you have the rest of my advice has been to be found to be valid by many. Allowing your body to heal and repair its immune system can be a part of recuperation following RC and treatment for many. Ask your doctor if you should up our water consumption, make sure our diets contain nutrient rich foods, if you are getting enough sleep and that you are getting enough activity. And always follow your doctors advice and again consider talking to him about seeing a infection disease specialist if this continues

Thanks so much Cynthia. I had my bladder removed with the prostate so catheter won't help. My doc just called...confirmed the UTI and if I get worse it's back to the hospital. Tomorrow will be 2 full days on the cipro which he said is the usual amount of time for this to stabilize.

Hoping for the best!

Alen, sorry you are having such a hard time. Since I don't know what you have already tried I hesitate because as a non Doctor I only know what others here have done. For about two years after my RC I battled with UTI's(I have an Indiana it's like a Neo without the external plumbing). But here goes first of all I think my immune system was shot and it took a while getting it back in shape. I did this by taking a hard look at my diet and rest as well as activity level a big deal when you are healing. Second of all I upped my water not coffee, tea or soda-water. I had the same bactiria over and over so we extended the Cipro and I stayed on it for two rounds. I upped the number of times I urinated I set a timer and went every two hours and made sure I emptied all the way. In the case of neos I know some have to catheterize once a day or so to make sure they are getting a completely empty neo. If you have not talked to your doctor about using a catheter to make sure you are getting a full empty you might think about it. I am told that it is not as bad ones the prostate is gone to use a catheter but as I never had one it is only hear say. I am told that what you do is void and then catheterize measuring what was residual. I have also known some who got a referral to an infectious disease specialist with good luck. I know how lousy you feel with UTI's after an RC and it is not a joke and I hope you find the cause.

Well it is almost 9 months since my RC and I have had several bouts of UTI through the nine months....3 to be exact.....two were hospital stays....Now after about 3 days, I feel like crap. No fever but aches and queasiness and just generally feel lousy. Went to doc, he put me on Cypro while waiting for a culture to come back.

I also advised my surgeon as well...

Anyone else have this issue? It is almost as debilitating as the UTI with fever etc.

Thanks in advance
Alanlee
