Ncreased PSA

You are likely correct that the PSA is a standard test within the blood panel. With that being said Jim has had his done every time he's had blood work done by the onco etc. even though he has no prostate. So, the good news is that the PSA is not something to be concerned about per his onco/uro and his uro he saw at U of Florida a few weeks ago for possible reconstruction of his IC. I don't know if you recall but the external stoma portion fell off when it necrosed almost 5 years ago. It wasn't the surgeons fault it is Jim's body habitus. he's a Big Boy and the adipose layer well, it didn't do the stoma a lot of good. Anyway, we are good to go and he will have his next CT to assure he is still in remission in August. it's most fitting since that will be the 5th anniversary of his RC/IC. Wishing all well!

I could be wrong but, I believe PSA is included in the catchall blood panel that reads 30 to 40 parameters in a standard man's test.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Just curious. Why is he having a PSA check when he has no prostate? When my Dad had his RC in 2007, they removed his prostate, too, and continued to do a PSA test along with his bloodwork. Doctor said it should be 0 or below. Seems like a waste (and an impossibility!) to test something that isn't even there!

I have no experience with that but from the logic. PSA increases from prostate cells (cancer) not from bladder cells in the prostate. I don't know the accuracy of that test, maybe it should be repeated.

It's been awhile since I've posted but I check in from time to time. Jims been doing great for the past 4.5+ years. CTs good, blood as good as it can be after all his chemo, he feels good etc. During his December ck up his PSA had gone from less than.5 to 2.4. He had a radical prostocystectomy which means his Prostate was removed. path report showed on TCC in his prostate. Anyone venture why this happened? The onco didn't seem overly concerned refered it back to onco/uro. We will see him next month. Suggestions?

I had a PAP test years ago that had very dire results. Only problem was I had had a PAP several months prior totally normal. I was moving to a new state and went to another gyn there who did serial PAPs that were all good. My guess is lab error. My inclination for Jim is to do the same with jims PSA. Open for advice. Thanks in advance.
