Thanks so very much for your sincere reply Mark. Perhaps, I can get a prescription for pain medication just so I can keep my bladder muscles open long enough to let the first urine stream out. The tingling is probably what the issue is here as it seems that I'm not sure how much its going to hurt so I naturally tighten up just when I'm about to release the urine. Anyway, again thanks for the thoughtful reply and I think you are such a courageous being to be going through this every 3 months.

I get a scoping done every 3 months, The urge to urinate is kind of strong for about the first 2-3 hours. Then it gets better as the day goes on. The next day you are fine.

As far as the first time you try to release urine after a cysto, there should be no real bad pain. Just a very small amount of tingling at best. If you have anything more than that get a hold of your Uro and find out what is wrong.

It's really no big deal, and only takes a few minuets.

First off they usually do a CT scan, then a cysto. I even had an Ultra-sound once before the scoping.

Talk to your doctor and your Urologist about any questions or fears you may have . They should be able to answer all your questions and calm your fears.

Remember if you don't fully understand something, ask them to clarify again. They are depending on you to ask questions. They can't read your mind, or tell what you are feeling. Write down a list of concerns before you go in.

Most people only listen to their doctors. That's so wrong. Doctors hate that. Be honest and open with them so they can make a good diagnosis with the info you give them.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Mike. I think my issue is regarding that burning feeling when your ready to release the urine for the first time after the procedure. I seem to automatically tighten up my bladder muscles when I feel the burning, so the end result is that I'm not able to relax long enough to let the stream flow out the first time. Once I let it out, then I have no problem going again. It must have something to do with anticipating how much its going to burn as the urine is coming out.

The urodine (pyridium) seems effective only after you let the first urine stream out. The urine seems to have to flow through in order to get a benefit from the pyridium.

Oh heck no!!! You are in for a pleasant surprise. :)

Well...that is if you call any of this stuff pleasant.

The normal from procedure for the cystoscopy (in-office) is to put some lidocaine numbing gel in the penis. Then wait 10 minutes to let it do the job. Then they use the cystoscope. The part that ranges from "ouch" to "HOLY CRAP I LEVITATED OFF THE TABLE AND HIT MY FACE ON THE CEILING" is when the scope goes through the prostatic sphincter. Usually, after that it is just weird feeling.

Then they give you an antibiotic and send you on your way and there is no problem with urination or any problems. If you are concerned there might be, ask for some pyridium (phenazopyridine). It turns your urine bright orange but it is a bladder pain reliever. If you then have any problem, take as directed. You can even get them over the counter.

It is a good thing to be uptight about having things inserted in your penis. Probably even Darwinian. :D

Thanks for the sincere information. Actually, I haven't had a cystoscopy before. The bladder stone removal and the 3 day catheter that followed made it so hard to release urine the first time and that is why I am so uptight about having any instrument inserted in my urethra (penis). I imagine that a cystoscopy makes you sore the same as the instruments for bladder stone removal.
