Can you hear the cheers from Sacramento? Wow! What an ordeal. Congratulations go to George who at 81 is starting a new life (and to you). Exciting news! May the rest of his recovery be easier.

I'm 70, retired heat/air contractor. After 4 months of keymo ileal conduit (IC) surgery removed bladder & prostate May 2010

Ok, we are finally both home and I will start a new thread about this.

The large incision made to correct the small intestine had to be reopened, weak muscle tissue had to be removed. Then they decided to not close the wound but to let it heal from the inside out.

So we are using a wound vac - and this machine is nothing short of miraculous.

Healing is taking place very fast, you can see the wound getting smaller daily.

We are now home with a portable wound vac to be used until all healed up - looks to be some 3 weeks.

I'll continue the story in a new thread, this is getting awfully long.

Well, yesterday during the day he was sitting in an armchair, sipping grape juice and eating jello and watching football, in great spirits and regaining motor movements etc. literally by the hr.

Then at 2 am I get a call from him - he is off to another operation. He said "because my incision is seeping".

I assume that means that the tests they initiated when he had the fever to determine the location of the issue came back and it was a leakage from the small intestine. The tests were to take some 3 days so the time frame fits...

I assume the infection was staved off by the antibiotic since the fever is gone.

Let's hope this was a minor operation. His two boys are coming back on thursday to stay with him til tuesday.

The roller coaster from hell continues it seems... I am just glad he is in the hospital he is in because they are very very thorough and follow through on every indicator of issues... I have a feeling back in Medford I would have long lost him.

So we go back to square one - again.

Ending the day on a good note, fever down 2 hrs after trying a new antibiotic. So It must have hit the spot right on.

He had some grape juice and it sure lifted his spirits.

What a rollercoaster this is, but we are moving on ahead....

The doc knows...

two steps forward, one step back - he runs a fever now. I am very worried about pneumonia as result of his aspiration episode much earlier...
