This week was the start of the 3rd round of chemo of Cisplatin and Gemzar. So far, Jim hasn't been able to get past the 3rd treatment and has to drop off for 2 weeks and then gets back to it. His blood counts just get too low. His oncologist who is also a hematologist feels he wants him strong enough to go the entire 6 rounds. We hope so as well hence he drops him off before his blood work gets too low. Anyone else out there had this chemo and have ideas how well it will work without finishing each of the rounds? Thanks in advance

Robert, some days are just fine some not so much, but overall Jim has done well with his chemo to this point. The Cisplatin and Gemzar are supposedly the "gold standard" for bladder cancer these days. Do well!

Hi, Everyone, Just a brief update about how Jim is doing with his chemo. He started on Cistplatin and Gemzar about 1.5 months ago and each round he has gotten two Cisplatin/1 with Gemzar and one Gemzar doses in and then his bloodwork drops too low. So, he is off again for 2 weeks rest until he rebuilds. He has really done well with exception of serious hiccups after his first two doses of Cisplatin. He got hiccups so badly that eventually he had to take Thorazine for 5 doses and voila, no more hiccups. It may not sound that bad but it was 24/7 to the point he would lose his breath. This past week he had fevers and was really feeling pretty badly. He was in his nadir so guess some of that is to be expected. Anyone who has had this regime of chemo please feel free to comment. This forum is awesome!
