Thanks for the input. Sounds like an option I should definitely look into. I have an appointment with the surgeon in 12/08 so will discuss with him...but will probably go to my local uro for the treatment...in case of complications, although hopefully none. I had the surgery in 10/07, so only a year out...so maybe the nerves will recover eventually.

Hello Harry,

I use the shots on a regular basis and I am now used to the routine.

In the beginning it took several times to find the right dosage and now i have harder erections than ever before.

You have to inject yourself in your penis and sounds painful but really is not and it literally takes five mins to prepare the shot and inject and within minutes you will have an erection.

Occasionally I have bruises on my penis from an injection which fade after a few days.

My erections last for around 60 minutes but as soon as you orgasm the erection becomes softer unless you stimulate once more.

I have my injection syringe prepared in advance so that I always have one handy in the refridgerator for those moments of passion....

I've also been told that length of time after surgery is very important as function can take a very long time to reappear.

The strange thing is that my doctor told me this at my 6 week post-op checkup after I told him that we'd had intercourse a few days before. He was basicly shocked as he said it usually took a lot longer.

I will say its not the same as before and tubes/other stuff do get in the way but it can happen.

ive used the shot on numerous occasions and found it reliable and after the first couple of goes, really not bad. it goes against the instincts to be sticking a needle in the penis but really it was 99.9% psychological for me. the needle is tiny and the area you inject into is mostly hollow. the dosage can be varied and my doc recommended starting with the smallest dose and working your way up if necessary. i found on the smallest dose i had the erection of a 17 year old so no problems there! if you OD on this then the danger is priapism - the inability to lose your erection. this is painful and can be considered an emergency as the tissues in the penis can begin to break down with a sustained erection of around 4 hours or more. for this reason it must be approached with some caution and not used with other ED meds. im sure your doc will tell you this.

all in all i have found it the most reliable of ED meds. when it works it really works! the other options - cialis, levitra and viagra i found to produce a softer erection that wasn't really capable of penetrative sex.

also, you didn't say when you had your op - im sure you've covered it elsewhere on this site - but nerve damage can take up to and beyond 2.5 years to recover from. Im 2 years in from my cystectomy and i really do feel the nerves are better now than they were. so don't necessarily assume that the way you are now is the way you'll always be.

all the best

tim

There were some posts over the summer regarding the shot option for ED, but nothing lately. I'm wondering how the shot option is working for those of you who have tried it? Although I had the nerve-sparing procedure, I have yet to have an erection, even with taking pills. I am able to pump blood into my penis, which lengthens it, but there is no hardness to it. My local uro mentioned the shot option, but before I follow through with that I am wondering if it is worth proceeding with it. Please give me some feed-back regarding your experience with it - pros and cons. Thanks. Harry
