Thank you so much for your quick replies.

After spending a lot more time on line and in a carers shop here I have discovered they are called 尿器 nyouki. I have found one that he will give a try. He still needs to wake up to operate it himself but we shall see if he falls asleep quicker afterwards. It should help as he doesn't need to walk.

Again thank you so much

You will find alot more price wise and a larger variety if you google Texas Catheters another name they use for them. Cheers, Joe ;)

Konnichi wa,

The Translation would be: カテーテル., or コンドームのカテーテル

But I can tell you that Condom Catheters are available online...no prescription needed...Can't give a reccommendation on which type is best...trial and error would be my guess...They are fairly inexpensive so get a few different kinds and see which works best. Adult Diapers are also an option unless you are trying to measure the urine? Is he actively bein treated in Japan? Does he have a Stage and Grade?

Good luck to you FIL

I am sorry if I offend anyone by posting here. I would really appreciate some advice, experience suggestions, anything!

I am an Australian living in Japan. My FIL has bladder cancer and has had several operations to remove polyps and has been told that it will not be possible to do that again as the bladder has shrunk too much.

My concern is to get him a bit of decent sleep. I have done a bit of research and discovered condom drainage or condom catheters or uridomes whatever they may be referred to here. Are these provided by a hospital or doctor? Can they be bought over the counter? Are there any issues with the use of them? Would anyone by any chance have any idea what they are called in Japanese?

My poor FIL is absolutely exhausted and is at the stage where he would do anything to sleep more than 45 minutes at a time. He has approached the doctor but doctors here seem to forget that their specialty research/treatment area is attached to a person trying to have a life.

Thank you in advance
