You may get a little bored, but explore the hospital...you'll be surprised at what you may find. They may even have a library and DVD's. Maybe a van to drop you off to shop, if you don't want to go by yourself. I went out everyday to buy some healthy food for eating in the hospital, etc.

I always say bring one of those wire carts to carry everything with you. You may look a little weird wheeling it thru the wards, but you'll have your pillow, music, books, snacks, etc.

And again, remind people not to send flowers...send cards. You have to answer the door for flowers, and that's a big pain. You'll enjoy going through the cards much more.

Eileen..my husband stayed with me the entire time but more as my advocate as i was pretty duped up on morphine and really couldn't fend for myself ..he watched what meds were brought in...got the nurses when the machines i was hooked to decided to ding ding ding every l5 minutes or so....He brought the books but they were for him to read...and i sent him out when i was out of my cloud to explore beautiful downtown Cleveland!!! I'm sure he was bored out of his skull but i was so grateful he was there. Play it by ear...he's relatively young...he may bounce back quickly. I was happy when my sons came as they mostly sat and watched baseball with my hubby and had a great visit....I slept!! Pat

thanks holly. the company isn't for my husband - i told everyone who wanted to make the trip to baltimore not to come. it was for me - my husband is worried i'll go crazy by the end of the week. i think that once they get that cancer out of his body, nothing will bother me. but who can predict?

Hi,
When I had my RC/Neobladder done in March, I was hospitolized 9 days I think. Between the obvious pain of surgery yet having to walk so much; the pain meds which bring sleeps; throwing up, trying to get "sounds"to get food, needing a few units of blood, the shock of all the tubes, learning about flushing etc. I didn't have time to read lol. I had company - my brothers brought my Dad to see me for a few hours around day 3 while I was getting blood. My husband, Mother and son were there for the surgery but went home the day after at my request. My hubby came back to the hospitol for the weekend - days 4 & 5, and returned to take me home day 9.
I was not up to any more company or activity than that.
Hope all goes well - you are in my prayers, Holly
