Dar...i would recommend that your husband have his surgery at a place such as MD Anderson as it is a major cancer hospital and sees many bladder cancer patients plus it has top cardiologists that would be available for consult during the procedure.
I have no regrets about having my cystectomy and its been now 4 l/2 yrs and my body has adjusted quite well to my chosen Pouch. Its not an easy surgery with reconstruction and i would go with the recommendation of the surgeon and cardiologist as to what diversion to choose.
Most people your husbands age have an ejection fraction of around 55 ..36% is below normal but not the worst. Pat

I appreciate those who answered. This is a scary situation and it is very helpful to hear from bladder canser survivors. The more we know the better prepared. To answer a couple of questions; they balooned open his artery with the first heart attach 12 years ago and put in 2 stents 2 years ago. There is nothing to bypass at this point. His injection fraction was 36% 4/07. We have an appointment with our Cardiologist today. Hope everything works out well with your husband Gene. I will also say some prayers for him.

Any other information or thoughts will be appreciated.

Well I can tell you my husband is also 66 years old, he was diagnosd with Stage 3 T-2 bladder cancer, very aggressive. In April he had blood in his urine, no energy, and lost 15 pounds. In November I had the rescue squad at our home as he had a heart attack, AFTER ARRIVING AT THE HOSPITAL HE HAD ANOTHER ATTACK AND CODED PURPLE he had a stent put in his A descending artery immediately. The next day he had 4 more stents. The following months he did well, worked out in rehab therapy, then boom, bladder cancer. Gene and I have tried to think of everything we can to keep the bladder and find a different answer to the situation. Well after 3 turbs and tumors removed the reality is , The Bladder has to come out"
We asked our surgeon about partial cystestomy, the result down the road will be the same. Taking a chance on reoccurence is to great with stage 3 aggressive. So Sept. 14th at the Cleveland Clinic it will be removed. Gene has decided to go for the neo-bladder unless the situation is not feasible then the bag. We have an appointment with the Cardiologist Sept. 5th, for clearance, the Cleveland Clinic has also scheduled there cardiologist to be there for the operation and will report to our cardiologist. Believe you me , if I could avoid this operation for my husband I would do anything, but after 3 months now of talking about it, tests and more tests, final results, stage 3 T-2 muscle invasive, there's one answer, I just needed to hear it alot of times before I actually believed it.
As our surgeon said when I asked how long we can delay this he said, 'CANCER COMES FIRST'' 3 months from diagnosis is recommended time for removal. Like you the heart thing has me concerned, but we have no other choice, so we will believe in our surgeon and pray all goes well.
I will keep you in my prayers and hope you and your husband get the right answers for your situation. I would like to get an update and hear your decision as to how you will proceed. Ginger Beane ps,, I wish it was stage 2, noninvasive
but I didn't get that, sorry to say

I wish you and your husband the best but I can tell you this for sure he will definitely have to be cleared by a cardiologist before this surgery it is very intense having had two heart attacks. I had a Bi-Femoral Bypass for blocked femoral arteries in my legs back in 2000. My surgery for my bladder removal was done at the Univ of Penna in Phila and my surgeon sent me to a cardiologist up there to have a stress test done before they would clear me for the surgery. I had the Persantine Stress Test done instead of the treadmill because my legs can't take that treadmill. You can check this link out about the Persantine Stress Test www.healthtouch.com/bin/EContent_HT/cnoteShowLfts.asp?fname=07153&title=PERSANTINE+THALLIUM+STRESS+TEST+&cid=HTHLTH Good Luck To Ya's, Joe

You say your husband has had 2 heart attacks and a low ejection fraction...has he had any bypass surgery or stents or is it being controlled by drugs? Its a tough surgery for someone with a low ejection fraction (do you know that number?)..The simplist surgery is removal of the bladder and an ilieal conduit which is the outside bag. Time depends on how it is done and the surgeon doing it.
