Hi,

I sent your question to our email group and got this reply:

Hello New Man,

Via Wendy Sheridan I see your inquiry as to Sodium bicarb and then the mucous etc..

Essentially your blood work was abnormal. You did not say what. I suspect you were getting" acidotic" perhaps even slightly. Baking soda tablets correct that. (As it seemed to from your Normal blood susbsequently). It is a "Buffer"

I think you need to STAY ON IT unless your doc says otherwise. You could potentially arrive at "metabolic acidosis" This stuff gets rather scientific.

Your neobladder may be a "permeable membrane" meaning....... osmotic electrolytes go thru the wall into your system at large. That is.... urine ingredients get into your system. This is UNLIKE a normal bladder which does not allow such a thing.

Mucous......... not anything to do with the Sodium Bicarbonate I imagine.

Do you take Vitamin B 12 injections? Did your doctor take a B12 level?

We need to know a bit more to be somewhat accurate here. Ultimately of course you need to discuss this if even over a phone........ with your doctor. Let us know more Seattle Wayne

Hello,

I had a Cystoprostectomy just over a year ago. Everything has been going relatively well but I was having some blood work come back negative. My Urologist sent me to an internal medicine doctor who told me that my potassium and electrolites were out of kilt. He put me on Sodium Bicarbonate for that.

I had a recent follow up with that doctor and he told me that all the blood work came back normal. I quit taking the sodium bicarbonate and now I'm finding that the mucous from my neobladder is getting heavier; in fact it's plugging me up to a point I can't urinate and I have to cath myself.

Does the sodium bicarb have anything to do with that?
