Hello Celeste... I'm very sorry to read about your husband's diagnosis. Are you going to the VA Hospital near Vanderbilt in Nashville? If so, they have access to some very good doctors and surgeons.
I am a patient of Vanderbilt Medical Center, next to a VA Hosp. I'm fairly certain my urologist also does quite a lot of surgeries at the VA next door. Dr. Clark is an excellent surgeon. I hope he can get the best of care that he deserves.
Best wishes... Catherine

Been reading(This is Celeste his wife) He has VA. We were able to get his chemo treatments moved closer to home to a oncology center. With no other insurance we are not able to shop around. We are thankful that we will not have to drive over 6 hours a trip for his treatments. His surgery will be in Nashville. At this time plans are for removal of bladder, prostate, urethra, and lymph nodes. He will have a stoma with bag
I do hope you have read some of the other posts on this site.
It is so important to have a Dr and hospital that specializes in Bladder cancer.
If you are at one of these facilities... good luck
If not ... please find one

Blood in urine starting in March, just every once in awhile that I could see. August I started burning when I peed. Went to doctor, got treated for UTI several times but the bleeding was bad and it always feels like razor blades.
Diagnosed 11/20/2015 with Aggressive high grade T4a bladder cancer. CT scan did not show anything. Tumor completely filled my bladder. Doc had to open my ureters in my bladder so my kidneys could drain. My urethra has been invaded by the cancer and my prostate. Now I have several swollen lymph nodes that are causing my whole leg to be swollen (peripheral lymphedema). Chemo starts Tuesday. It hurts so much.
